Gabriel phthalimide synthesis: This method includes the subsequent three steps.

1. Phthalimide is reacted along with KOH to form potassium phthalimide.

2. The potassium salt is treated along with an alkyl halide.

3. The product N-alkyl phthalimide is put to hydrolysis along with hydrochloric acid while primary amine is formed.

While hydrolysis is difficult, the N-alkyl phthalimide can be treated along with hydrazine to give the needed amine.
