Question
What are main functions of cap block drive cap and pile cushion in driven piles?
Answer
Cap block is fit amid hammer end and drive cap to manage hammer blow in order to protect together hammer and pile from damage. When hammer hits cap block, it squeeze elastically and reduces peak forces, thereby lengthening time of hammer blow. Furthermore, it has to be capable of transmitting hammer energy effectively to piles.
Drive cap is put in at hammer tip to improve uniform distribution of hammer energy to pile. Pile cushion is positioned amid drive cap and pile top. It means to protect pile from driving stress induced during hammer blows. Furthermore, it also serves to give a uniform driving load on top of pile.
