Assignment Help:

Find out diameter of steel wire:

Q: A load of 5 KN is to be raised with help of steel wire. Find out diameter of steel wire, if maximum stress does not to exceed 100 MNm2.

Sol.: Given:

P = 5 KN = 5000N

σ = 100MN/m2  = 100N/mm2

Let D be diameter of wire

We know, σ = P/A

σ = P/ (Π /4 × D2)

100 = 5000/ ( Π /4 × D2)

D = 7.28mm                                                                 .......ANS
