Filtering – biomedical application, Other Subject

Assignment Help:

Filtering is a key step in many signal processing applications. The signal being processed often has additional unwanted noise components. Where possible a filter is used to remove these components. In this assignment you are to design a filter (Notch Flitter) that removes a sinusoidal noise source for a biomedical application.

The Assignment

Doctors record heart sound signals from patients in hospitals in an environment in which many background noises occur. This can be from people or from essential medical equipment and devices operational in the environment. In this assignment you are to develop a filter that removes noise produced by electronic medical equipment. It is known that the equipment in question emits a tone at 2000 Hz. Design a filter that will remove this component, whilst having the minimum impact on the heart sound signal recorded. You are provided with a test sound signal.

The Report

The final output of this assignment is a report. Your report should:

  • Cleary introduce the topic and explain all necessary terminology and set out the aims of the project in the introduction. You should clearly identify the aims of the project in week 1.
  • Explain the work completed.
  • Present the results obtained.
  • Analysis and or theory to support findings.
  • Conclusions that can be drawn from the results obtained. Please note the conclusions should relate to the aims/objective set out in the introduction and should refer to the results presented to support any claims that are made.

The instructions for this assignment are intentionally general. Evidence of a structured approach to the investigation of each aspect of this project should be clearly evident in the report.
