Q. Explain working of plate heat exchangers?
For gasket plate heat exchangers handling flammable materials, the same spacing requirements for air coolers should be applied. If handling flammable materials and located within 6 m (20 ft.) horizontally of equipment with a high fire potential, the plate exchanger should be fireproofed. Plate exchangers tend to be small compared to shell & tube exchangers of equivalent duty. Piping and supports shall be arranged to allow plate withdrawal so that maintenance facilities and escape or access routes are not obstructed. Sufficient space is required all around these exchangers for plate removal and cleaning. Plate exchangers normally sit on sloped paved floors for wash down and spillage collection.
