Assignment Help:

Explain what is Biomes and their types?

Scientists study biological systems as units. For instance, an ecosystem unit consists of a community and its physical environment. The biological unit above the ecosystem level is called a biome, and can include more than one ecosystem. Above the biome level is the biosphere, which includes the entire envelope of living organisms on the Earth. The biome concept was first developed by Victor Shelford, who recommended using large scale plant formations as biological units, and to include those animals that are associated with them.

Generally speaking, terrestrial biomes are large land areas consisting of major ecosystems, which are defined by climate on a global scale. For example, deserts are easily distinguishable from tropical rainforests and tundra in terms of species composition and climate. For the most part, the amount of rainfall, climate, and geological conditions are the most important factors in determining what types of vegetation are able to grow in a given geographic area. Depending on the classification system being used, biomes are usually grouped into 7 different types. They are:

1. tropical rain forest
2. savanna
3. desert
4. temperate grassland
5. temperate deciduous forest
6. taiga
7. tundra
