P Company manufactures and sells a range of children's clothing through its retail shops and is currently designing a website in order to allow customers to purchase products online. The project is a major investment for P Company and it is seen by the Board of Directors as being a critical strategic development to ensure the continued success of the business in a highly competitive market.
Explain to G the role and responsibilities of the project manager for the new website development project.
G, as the project manager, will play a beneficial role in the success or failure of the website development project. She will be the person ultimately responsible for make sure that the final desired website is achieved on time and within budget to the satisfaction of the project stakeholders (i.e. P Company's customers, the internal department users and the Board of Directors as the project sponsors. As the project team is multi-disciplinary, she will have a difficult role in co-ordinating, managing, controlling and communicating the project tasks.
A key role of the project manager is the management of the team members, so G must take responsibility for the entire project team which is carrying out the several project tasks in order to achieve the project objectives. G will be responsible for planning, team building, communication and co-ordinating the several project activities, monitoring and controlling, problem resolution and quality control
