Explain the working of chemical cell, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Q. Explain the working of chemical cell?

Ans. A chemical cell can be set up by dipping two different metals in an electrolyte and connecting the two metals with an external wire. The electrons produced at the anode are transferred to the cathode through the external wire.

Here are a few points about the simple chemical cell:

  • The two different metals are called electrodes.
  • The electrode where the oxidation reaction occurs is called the anode. (You can remember this connection by realizing that both word, "oxidation" and "anode" begins with a vowel.
  • The electrode where the reduction reaction occurs is called the cathode. (Both of these words, "reduction" and "cathode," begin with a consonant.)
