Explain the Tertiary Treatment for Wastewater

Tertiary Treatment: in cases where secondary treatment is not adequate (particularly if the discharges are into a sensitive water bodies), then additional treatment (biological and/or chemical treatment followed by filtration) known as tertiary treatment may be used.

Typical Standards: 10 mg/l BOD5, 10 mg/l suspended solids, 1 mg/l Phosphorous (for effluent discharges into great lakes)
