Explain the process of leaching- Temperature
High temperatures hinder the process of leaching and cause an upward movement of soluble salts. Wherever, moisture conditions are favourable, high temperatures favour the growth of luxurious vegetation and at the same time bring about a rapid decomposition of organic matter due to increased activities of microorganisms. Low temperatures, on the other hand, induce leaching by reducing evaporation. They favour the accumulation of organic matter by slowing down the process of decomposition. Temperature thus controls the rate of chemical and biological reactions taking place in the parent material and the rate of decomposition of organic matter.
