Explain the Cultural Practices of single crop

Continuous cultivation of a single crop over years on the same site causes accumulation of a particular group of microbes, which dominate over the other.  Crop rotation with a legume disturbs the unfavourable population balance.  Irrigation, liming of acid soils (treating with lime to decrease acid), gypsum application to soil significantly increase bacterial activity.  Fertilizers and manures increase crop production and microbial p opulation in soil.
