The Cori cycle
a) Pyruvate formed from glucose is converted to lactate by lactate dehydrogenase in the muscle cell.
b) Lactate is released into the blood and taken up by the liver.
c) Lactate is converted to pyruvate by the isoenzyrne of lactate dehydrogenase using NAD+ as cofactor in the liver.
d) Pyruvate is converted to glucose by gluconeogenic mechanism in the liver and released into the blood where it can be used as energy source for ~uscle and other tissue.
