Explain the Composition and Functions of Gastric Juice

In resting condition, the secretion of gastric juice is little in amount and is about 10- 15 ml. After taking each meal, the amount of secretion begins to increase. The total secretion per day starts from 1500-2000 ml. Its pH is strongly acidic, i.e. 2.3. Its specific gravity is 1.002- 1.004. Gastric juice contains 99.45% of water and 0.55% solid. Of the solids, organic constituents are 0.4% and inorganic constituents are 0.15% of total gastric juice. Table presents the composition of organic and the inorganic constituents present in gastric juice.
