Explain nutritional science

Dietitians are in a 'helping' profession because the services they provide are beneficial to individuals  and society and dedicated to improving the nutritional status of the people. Helping professions can be described as professionals that do something with knowledge e.g., communicating, interpreting and applying nutritional science to benefit the health of people.

Helping professional need a variety of skills:

-  Techniques of interviewing

-  Techniques of counseling

-  Ability to relate to individuals, groups and individuals

- Effectiveness in bringing about change

-  Capacity for self-understanding

-  Establishment of professional, interdisciplinary relationship

-  Knowledge of personality, group and societal dynamics
