Q. Explain nutritional management of metabolic diseases?
The nutritional management of metabolic diseases such as gout and a few inborn errors of metabolism such as phenylketonuria, tyrosinemia, MSUD, homocystinuria and galactosernia. Gout, we learnt, is a chronic disease due to an inherited abnormality of purine metabolism. Dietary treatment for gout often include a diet of lower purine intake. Drugs are so effective in lowering the serum urate concentration that rigid restriction of dietary purines is rarely necessary.
