Explain multimedia extensions technology, Electrical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Explain MMX Technology.

Multimedia extensions technology adds 57 newly instructions to the instruction set of the Pentium - 4 microprocessors. The Multimedia extensions technology also introduces new general purpose instructions. The new Multimedia extensions instructions are designed for application like motion video and combined graphics with image processing, video, audio synthesis, speech compression and synthesis, telephony, 2D graphics, video conferencing and 3D graphics. These new instructions operate in parallel with other operations like the instruction for the arithmetic coprocessor.

The multimedia extensions technology architecture introduces data types of new packed. The data types are eight packed and consecutive 8-bit bytes; 4 packed consecutive 16-bit words as well as 2 packed consecutive 32-bit double words.
