Monomeric enzymes
Monomeric enzymes are those which consist of only a single polypeptide chain, so they cannot be dissociated into smaller units. Very few monomeric enzymes are known and all of these catalyze hydrolytic reactions. In general, they contain between 100 and 300 amino acid residues and have molecular weights in the range of 13 kDa to 35 kDa. Some, for e.g. carboxypeptidase A, are associated with a metal ion, but most act without the help of any cofactor.
