Additional Reference bits algorithm
Here we keep an 8-bit byte for every page in memory. At standard intervals the reference bit is shifted by the OS. If a shift register contains 00000000 then the page hasn't been used for the last 8 time periods. A page with a history 11000000 is more recently used than 01000000. The no of bits are able to be varied accordingly to the needs of the OS.
Many-to-Many Model The many-to-many model- many user-level threads to many kernel-level threads avoids several of the limitations of the one-to-one model, although extending mu
Semispace works by maintaining two disjoint areas from which memory can be allocated. These areas are called the from-space and the to-space. At ?rst, the algorithm allocates memor

Determining the time quantum for a job is a critical task. Given the assumptions that the average switching time between processes is s, and the average amount of time an I/O bo
Most process abstractions support processes being destroyed when the program terminates, or in response to a specific kill directive. There are two common implementations, one a "p

The term Operating System (OS) is often misused. It is common, for example, for people to speak of an OS when they are in fact referring to an OS and to a set of additional applica
