Explain in detail about the Sedimentary rocks
Sedimentary rocks are formed from the breakdown of igneous rocks. These rocks are broken apart by plant roots, ice wedges, and Earth movements and are transported by glaciers, waves, currents, and wind to far away places. These transported particles are cemented together by substances like silica, iron oxide or lime in a consolidated form to give rise to new rocks. In some cases these rocks are formed of substances which were at one time in solution in water and were deposited as rock masses either by cooling, evaporation or by direct chemical precipitation. Sandstone, limestone, and shale are types of sedimentary rocks that contain quartz sand, lime, and clay, respectively. Many of these rocks are deposited in layers or strata and hence they are known as stratified rocks.
