The significant provisions of Factories Act, 1948 are given below:

a) Health: The following are the significant provisions for worker health:-

(i) Cleanliness

(ii) Disposal of Effluents and Wastes

(iii) Temperature and Ventilation

(iv) Fumes and Dust

(v) Artificial Humidification

(vi) Overcrowding

(vii) Lighting

(viii) Drinking Water

(ix) Urinals and Latrines

(x) Spittoons

b) Safety: The provisions along with regard to safety are:

(i) Fencing and encasing of machinery

(ii) Work on or near machinery in motion

(iii) Employment of young person's on dangerous machines

(iv) Lifts and Hoist

(v) Lifting machine, lifting tackles, ropes and chains

(vi) Pressure plants

(vii) Floors, stairs and implies of access to various places

(viii) Pits, sumps and openings in floors,

(ix) Excessive weights

(x) Protection of eyes

(xi) Precautions against hazardous fumes

(xii) Explosive or inflammable dust and gas.

(xiii) Precautions in case of fire

c) Welfare: Provisions associated to welfare are given here:-

(i) Washing facilities

(ii) Facilities for sitting

(iii) First aid appliances

(iv) Canteens

(v) Shelters, Lunch-rooms and rest-rooms

(vi) Crèches

(vii) Welfare officers

d) Working Hours: The provisions regarding working hours deal with the given:

(i) Weekly hours

(ii) Weekly holidays

(iii) Daily hours

(iv) Intervals for rest

(v) More wages for over-time

(vi) Limitation on double employment

(vii) Register of adult workers

(viii) Limitations on employment of women

e) Employment of Young Persons: Its provisions are given here:

(i) Prohibition of employment of young children

(ii) Non-adult workers

(iii) Certificate of fitness

(iv) Working hours for children

(v) Register of child workers
