Explain Enfuvirtide
Enfuvirtide is the first fusion inhibitor approved by the FDA for treatment of HIV infection and is indicated for treatment-experienced patients with ongoing HIV replication despite current antiretroviral use. It is administered by subcutaneous injection twice daily. In two open-label trials in highly treatment-experienced patients, the addition of enfuvirtide to a back- ground regimen optimized by resistance testing resulted in superior virologic suppression and CD4 cell count increases compared to opti- mized background regimen alone.
