Explain Elephant Trunk Technique in Aortic Aneurysm ?

Elephant Trunk Technique :  When aneurysm involves arch of the aorta and large portion of descending thoracic aorta, operation has to be done in two stages. This operation is known as elephant trunk technique. The operation is done through median stelnotomy as described in the previous section on arch aneurysm. The only difference is that a large portion of the graft is left loose in the descending aorta as rill elephant trunk. As a second stage left thoracotomy is done and the end of the graft, which is left as elephant trunk, is anastomosed to descending thorncic aorta below the aneurysm.
