Explain Cough reflex Actions - Respiratory Process

Cough reflex causes cough due to irritation of some receptors in tracheo-bronchial tree. It is a protective reflex. The irritation may occur in the vagal sensory nerve endings of the larynx, trachea etc. Chemically induced coughing occurs due to inhalation of gas. Cough, either mechanically or chemically induced, is a sudden forcible expiratory act.
