Explain Cephalic Phase or Neural Phase

45% of the total gastric secretion is discharged in this phase. The flow of juice occurs before food reaches the stomach. Sight of food, taste, smell and even the thought of an appetizing meal produce secretions by the reflex stimulation of vagus nerve. If vagus nerves are cut, this phase of gastric secretion stops. Through the vagus nerve, the parietal cells are stimulated.
