Explain Carbonating - method of food preservation?

Carbonated water is the water in which carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved under pressure. By eliminating oxygen, carbonated water inhibits bacterial growth. Carbonated beverages (soft drinks), therefore, contain a natural preservative.
