Explain Bile Salts - Constituents of Bile

The liver is the site for synthesis of bile salts. The amino acid glycine is synthesized in the body. Taurine is derived from the sulphur-containing amino acid cysteine. Glycocholic acid and taurocholic acid (i.e. bile salts) are formed by the combination of glycine and taurine with cholic acid respectively (cholic acid is a bile acid synthesized in the liver).
