Explain Antibodies
Antibodies (also referred to as immunoglobulins and garnmaglobulins) are produced by plasma cells. They are Y-shaped proteins that each respond to a specific antigen. What is an antigen? The foreign matter (bacteria, virus or toxin) that enters the body and elicits a specific immune response by lymphocytes is called an antigen or immunogen. It stimulates the immune system to produce protective chemicals or special cells to destroy the antigens. These protective chemicals are called antibodies.
