Adverse Effects of Valacyclovir
Valacyclovir is generally well tolerated; adverse effects are similar to those with acyclovir. GI disturbance, headache, rash, CNS effects such as hallucinations and confusion, and nephrotoxicity can occur. A thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura/hemolytic uremic syndrome has been reported in some severely immunocompromised patients taking high doses.
