Explain Adding Negative Fraction?

To add negative fractions:
1. Find a common denominator.
2. Change the fractions to their equivalents, so that they have common denominators.
3. Rewrite the sum of the two fractions as the sum of the two numerators divided by the common denominator.
Example 1:
Add 1/5 +(-5)/15
1/5 + -5 /15 +-5/15 +-5/15 = 3-5 /15= -2/15
