Fungi belonging to zygomycota are called zygomycetes. Hyphae in this sub-class are coenocytic. Asexual spores develop in sporangia at the tips of aerial hyphae. Sexual spores called zygospores, are formed by fusion of different mating types designated positive and negative, because male and female are morphologically indistinguishable. Zygomycetes are involved in production of foods, like tempeh, sufu.
