Explain about the dispersion in optical fibres.
Dispersion in optical fibres:
Into optical fibers, temporal distribution of optical pulses because of dispersion will lead to merging of pulses like the length of propagation by the fiber raisess and finally lead to smearing out of data as depicted within the figure below. (Keep in mind that length increases attenuation also increases, therefore amplitude also drops.) It is limits the total bit-rate of long distance transmission by the optical fiber.
The increase within pulse width due to dispersion as this travels by the fiber is a function of the length of travel (km) including the line width (nm) of the optical source and is thus expressed into terms of ns/km.nm.
