Explain about the Celiac Disease?

Celiac disease (also called gluten enteropathy) is an intestinal disorder that results from an abnormal  immunological reaction to gluten. u protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and, to a lesser  extent, oats. It is characterized enteropathy of small intestines. It is said to be due to genetic, as well as, environmental factors. It is seen all over the world, as well as, in India. The clinical manifestation or celiac disease in children below 3-4 yrs of age is chronic diarrhoea, abdominal distension, extreme irritability and failure to thrive.  The diagnosis of celiac disease is established with the help of three biopsies. Long term implication of untreated celiac disease could him growth stunting, osteoporosis and dental enamel defects. Treating the patient with celiac disease emphasizes the importance of maintaining dietary compliance.
