Q. Explain about Semiconductor Memories?
Originally IC technology was used for constructing processor however soon it was realized that same technology can be used for construction of memory. First memory chip was constructed in year 1970 and was able to hold 256 bits. Cost of this first chip was high. The cost of semiconductor memory has decreased gradually and currently IC RAM's are quite cheap. Though cost has decreased the memory capacity per chip has raised. At present we have reached 1 Gbits on a single memory chip. Several new RAM technologies are available currently.
