Q. Explain about Gastro Oesophageal Reflux Disease?
GERD refers to the regurgitation of acidic stomach contents into the oesophagus. It results in a spectrum of clinical manifestations, the most common being heartburn and acid regurgitation. The pathologic reflux can result in a wide variety of clinical presentations. GERD is typically chronic, and while it is generally non-progressive, some cases are associated with the development of complications of increasing severity and significance. Reflux occurs when the pressure inside the stomach is higher than that maintained by the muscles found where the stomach and oesophagus meet.
