Q. Explain about Best hydraulic section?
The best hydraulic section of an open channel is considered by provision of maximum discharge with a given cross sectional area. Channels with circular shape is the best hydraulic sections whereas a rectangular channel with channel width being equal to two times the height of channel is the best hydraulic section amongst all rectangular sections. Actually the choice of best hydraulic section also possesses other benefits than hydraulic performance. For example for a given discharge rate use of best hydraulic section could assure the least cross sectional area of the channels. Considerable savings could be made from the reduction in the amount of excavation and from the useof less channel linings.
