Basic concepts
When a process is to be changed in, the pager guesses which pages will be used before the process is changed out again. Instead of swapping in a entire process, the pager brings only those essential pages into memory. The valid-invalid bit scheme can be used to distinguish among pages that are in memory and those pages that are on the disk. Access to a page marked unacceptable causes a page-default trap. This trap is the result of the operating system's failure to bring the needed page into memory.
What are the phases of background processing? Phases are:- Job Scheduling. Job Processing. Job Overview.
Q. Present an algorithm for reconstructing a logical ring after a process in the ring fails? Answer: Typically distributed systems utilize a coordinator process that performs
Is disk scheduling, other than FCFS scheduling, useful in a single-user environment? Explain your answer. In a single-user environment, the I/O queue usually is blank. Requests
What are the three main activities of an operating system in regard to secondary-storage management? a) Free-space management. b) Storage allocation. c) Disk scheduling.

IMPLEMENTATION OF SEGMENTATION WITH AN EXAMPLE Segmentation is a memory-management scheme that represents the user view of memory. A logical address space is the collection of
Q. Why is rotational latency typically not considered in disk scheduling? How would you alter SSTF, SCAN and C-SCAN to comprise latency optimization? Answer: Most disks don't
