A water sprinkler operates in a circular pattern a distance of 10 ft. Evaluate the circumference of the spray? (π = 3.14)

a. 31.4 ft

b. 314 ft

c. 62.8 ft

c. The circumference of a circle is given by πd. Since 10 ft shows the radius, the diameter is 20 feet. The diameter of a circle is twice the radius. Thus, the circumference is (3.14)(20) or 62.8 ft. If you select a, you used πr rather than 2πr. If you select b, you found the area rather than circumference.
