Evaluate reaction of support of the frame:
How can you evaluate reaction of support of the frame?
Sol.: The frames are usually supported on roller support or on a hinged support. The reactions at supports of frame can be determined by the conditions of equilibrium (that is, sum of horizontal forces and vertical forces is zero). The external load on frame and reactions at supports should form a system of equilibrium.
There are 3 conditions of equilibrium.
1. ∑V = 0 (that is Algebraic sum of all the forces in a vertical direction should be equal to zero.)
2. ∑H = 0 (that is Algebraic sum of all the forces in a horizontal direction should be equal to zero.)
3. ∑M = 0 (that is Algebraic sum of moment of all the forces about a point should be equal to zero.)
