Energy Conservation Building Codes

It encompass the norms and standards of energy consumption expressed in terms of per square meter of the area wherein energy is used.

The main provisions of the Act on Energy Conservation Building Codes are as given below:

  1. The BEE would prepare guidelines for Energy Conservation Building Codes (ECBC);
  2. ECBC would be remembered to suit local climate conditions or other compelling factors through the respective states for commercial buildings constructed after the rules relating to energy conservation building codes have been notified. Additionally, these buildings should have a linked load of 500 kW or contract demand of 600 kVA and above.
  3. Energy audit of specific designated commercial building consumers would also be prescribed. Through energy audit, we mean verification, monitoring and analysis of energy use involving submission of technical report containing recommendations for improving energy efficiency with cost advantages analysis and an action plan to decrease energy consumption.
