Dopamine is important for working memory and drug that increases the level of dopamine in the brain or facilities the action of dopamine, enhances working memory capabilities.Dopamine helps to maintain the ongoing information in the face of interference by signaling when the information in working memory should be updated. It is suggested that anatomy of the dopamine system is such that dopamine-producing cells have a strong connection to the prefrontal cortex- the brain region that is considered most important for protecting maintained information from distraction.
