DIGESTION OF FOOD MATERIALS

Digestion, you know, involves  the mixing of  food, its movement through the digestive tract and chemical breakdown of the large ntolecules of  food  into smaller molecules. Digestion, you  also learnt, begins  in  the mouth, when we chew and swallow, and  is completed in  the small intestine. The chemical process varies somewhat for different kinds of  foodlnutrients i.e.  for carbohydrates, proteins,  fats etc. In  this section, we shall learn about  the chemical process involved during the digestion of these nutrients in the body. We shall start with the digestion of carbohydrates.
