Prosthodontic considerations

In order to achieve good results, understated features should always be examinated.

1. Smile Line:

A high smile line increases the esthetic demands. The soft tissue management may be required before the prosthetic phase.

2. Resting Lip Line:

Assesses whether the lips are competent or incompetent. Incompetent lips can lead to persistence of inflammation in relation to labial gingival of the anteriors.

3. Evaluation of the Existing Occlusion:

The centric occlusion has to be corroborated with centric relation and any deflective occlusal contacts need to be adjusted. The correction of the problem may require selective odontoplasty, orthodontic approach, restorations and or sometimes extraction.

4. Assessing the Existing Plane of Occlusion:

A diagnostic wax up is of immense importance to evaluate the plane of occlusion in the light of planned implant restorations. The curve of spee, curve  of Wilson and incisal guidance have to be evaluated. A steep incisal guidance may  prevent posterior interference during protrusive movements. Enododontic therapy and  crown may be suggested for correction of tipped supra erupted adjacent teeth.

5. Arch Relationship:

The maxillomandibular relationship has to be evaluated especially in areas having undergone resorption following extraction.  This is especially important in the anterior region, as the maxilla undergoes resorption towards the palate consequently the implants are located somewhat lingual to the original incisal position. Orthognathic and orthodontic treatment option therefore must be included in the discussion along with the entire treatment plan, if required.
