The following are the important neuropathic symptoms:
1. Dysesthesia: It means burning or tingling sensation, sunburn like feeling etc. Take a note of duration, time of occurrence such as whether in day or at night or all the times. Is there any excess painful sensation while the foot touches bed sheet or stocking?
2. Parathesias: Here the patient may have feeling of pins and needles, or electric like lancinating and shooting pain.
3. Muscular pains: It includes dull ache, night cramps, and abnormal band like feeling.
4. Others: Fainting attack on getting up, loss of urinary control, feeling of bloating after food, increasing constipation, sexual dysfunction are the features of autonomic neuropathy. Muscular weakness and obvious deformity of feet may be noted by an intelligent patient. This indicates motor neuropathy.
