Determine the governing effective length of a W12 x 106 steel column that is 12' high, pinned at each end, and braced at mid-height about the weaker y-axis. Assume rx / ry = 1.76.

Solution:

- About weak y-axis, K*Ly = 6'

- About strong x-axis, K*Lx = 12'

- The equivalent effective length about the major axis with respect to y-axis is:
