A short-term Definition: A virtual manufacturing system is utilizes of manufacturing-based simulations to optimize the design processes of and product for an exact manufacturing goal as like: quality; design for assembly; lean operations; and or flexibility.
A longer-term Definition: VM is utilizing of simulations of processes to estimate many production scenarios at various levels of fidelity and scope to inform design or product and manufacturing system and production decisions.
