Design-Centered Virtual Manufacturing

This gives manufacturing information to the designer throughout the design phase. In this observing the short term and long time definitions of virtual manufacturing systems are illustrated as follows:

  • A short-term Definition: A virtual manufacturing system is utilizes of manufacturing-based simulations to optimize the design processes of and product for an exact manufacturing goal as like: quality; design for assembly; lean operations; and or flexibility.
  • A longer-term Definition: VM is utilizing of simulations of processes to estimate many production scenarios at various levels of fidelity and scope to inform design or product and manufacturing system and production decisions.
