Fun World Ltd is a small manufacturer of computer games, which has been able to compete against the largest businesses in the industry. Simon, the new Managing Director, has been the reason behind the recent success of the company. He has brought about many changes, focusing on improved effectiveness and efficiency:

  • The introduction of group/team work in most departments and across departments; 
  • Training of managers to better carry out their informational and decisional roles

Although, the benefits of these changes have been numerous, many staff has been complaining about the tedious process of group decision-making.

a) Explain why effectiveness and efficiency are two major managerial concerns.

b) Describe the three informational roles of managers, as described by Mintzberg.

c) Outline the main individual and organizational functions performed by formal groups.

d) Analyse the possible advantages and disadvantages to Fun World Ltd of group decision-making.
