  • PIPs derived by genetic engineering from sexually compatible plants;
  • PIPs that work primarily by affecting the plant (e.g., thicker wax cuticles); and
  • PIPs based on viral coat proteins (substances that encapsulate and protect the genetic material of certain plant viruses).
