Describe the forms of energy, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Q. What are the diffrent forms of energy?

Ans: Kinetic energy is energy of motion. Gas molecules of a given substance move much more rapidly than do the molecules in the solid phase. Consequently, gas molecules have more kinetic energy than molecules in the solid phase of that substance. For example, water molecules in steam have greater kinetic energy than molecules in liquid water.

Potential energy is energy of position, or stored energy. The amount of potential energy that an object possesses depends on its position relative to that of other objects. Therefore, the farther an object is from another object, the more potential energy it has. For example, because individual gas molecules are positioned farther from one another than are liquid molecules, the potential energy of a gas is greater than the potential energy of a liquid.

Kinetic Energy vs. Potential Energy

Energy can also be classified based by its source. For example, energy can be electrical, light, mechanical, chemical, or nuclear.
