- Inversion at middle of bit interval is utilized for synchronization

- Presence or else absence of additional transition at beginning of interval identifies the bit

- Transition signifies binary 0 and no transition signifies 1

- Necessitates two signal changes to represent binary 0 and only one to represent 1
