Q. Describe about Digital Audio Tape?
The most proper tape for backing up data from a disk today is Digital Audio Tape (DAT). It employs a 4mm tape covered in a cartridge. It employs a helical scan, read after write recording scheme that provides reliable data recording. Head spins at a high speed while tape moves. Very high recording densities are attained. It employs a recording format known as Digital Data Storage (DDS) that provides three levels of error correcting code to make sure excellent data integrity. Total capacity is up to 4GB with a data transfer speed of 366KB/sec. This tape employs SCSI interface.
